Chewable Birth Control?

Just curious of what makes the new Femcon Fe pill different from other pills other than it has the spearmint flavour for a pleasant taste. I have this strange, uncontrollable relfex that when I first put ANY pill in my mouth, I automatically bite on it. I have a sensitive gag reflex so swallowing anything whole can be uncomfortable. Does chewing regular birth control alter the effectiveness?

Try swallowing the pill with some yogurt or something similar where you don't need to chew.



I checked MIMS (Catalogue of all pharmacological agents) for you and it does not give any indication that chewing the pill affects its potency. The only medications you will have to ensure you don't chew are enteric coated medications as these are often high dose,slow release and intended to be absorbed in the lower gastro intestinal tract.
Reply:I dont think there is a chewable birth control pill, but have you tried swallowing instead?
Reply:usually pills that arent meant to be chewed should remain so to be most effective. it took me forever to start swallowing pills but birth control pills are like 1/4 the size of pez (the candy ;) ) if not smaller so if you put it in your mouth, take a massive gulp of water it should go down. or you can try chugging a glass of water or milk after you put it in and try to forget about the pill
Reply:ACTUALLY I'M NO DR. BUT PILLS ARE PUT IN THE BLOOD SYSTEM FASTER IF THEY ARE DISOLVED IN THE MOUTH.
