Chewing gum?
When I was growing up I was told that it sits in your stomach and doesn't go anywhere. Now I know that this isn't true and was told this so I wouldn't swallow it.

Although not meant to be swallowed, if it is, gum base simply passes through one’s system as other roughage does. Chewing gum is made of five basic ingredients – sweetners, corn syrup, softeners, flavors and gum base (the insoluble part that puts the “chew” from chewing gum). The first four ingredients are soluble and are extracted from the gum as you chew. Gum base, however, is not.

Reply:Although chewing gum is designed to be chewed and not swallowed, it isn't harmful if swallowed. An old wives' tale suggests that swallowed gum sits in your stomach for seven years before it can be digested. But this isn't true. If you swallow gum, it's true that your body can't digest it. But the gum doesn't sit in your stomach. It progresses relatively intact through your digestive system and is excreted in your stool.
Reply:My coworkers and I had this discussion with a dr. that comes into our area frequently. ( I work in a medical facility) he told us that I just doesn't digest and just comes out the other end like corn does. (not to be gross but that's what happens) If swallowing your gum was bad for you they would have had to stop making it. Don't worry about it you will be just fine.
Reply:yes, it is bad for you. Some say it takes gum 7 years for a stick of gum to dissolve completely. If it builds up it could take longer.
Reply:Umm... I wouldn't do that. I am unaware of any actual medical risks, but I can't assume it would be good for you.
Reply:switch to edible candy.
Reply:It's not good for you. It can cause buildup in you gall bladder.
